Miles of Light

Take a look at this project here. A Study in Flora, by Miles of Light, is a recording of dried, lifeless flowers. Isn't it stunning? I'm sure the reason I'm attracted to it is none other than my own dabblings in drying flowers

Still. I saw her sun-flower-dyeing tutorial, and I'm hooked. I'm definitely following her blog, Miles of Light. So inspiring. :')

p.s.: I don't know why, but her work reminds me of my favourite new textile designer, Rosemary Milner!

+ This is super: Pick your own pendants! I'm planning to make something similar... it's part of my personal campaign to get away from the computer!

Bean Boozled

I warn you. This is a post on jelly beans.

My friend Libby and I visited an awesome candy store last Friday. I was feelin' brave and bought a pack of Jelly Belly beans called "Bean Boozled". It has some crazy flavours. And I mean Bertie Botts' Every Flavour Beans crazy. Booger, Rotten Egg, Mouldy Cheese, and Vomit are just some of them. Here is what I thought of the gross/weird ones:

Booger: Almost tasteless. A little sweet-and-salty, though. Really weird flavour.

Toothpaste: Mmm, very nice, felt like I'd brushed my teeth. Haha. I would eat this jelly bean again.

Rotten Egg: Yuck. Sulphuric and sweet (what the what what!?).

Buttered Popcorn: Felt like I was at the movies! Haha, it really did taste like popcorn. Wonder how they make all these flavours!

Vomit: Stomach-churning-ly repulsive. Euck! I got the acidic (don't really know how else to explain it) taste of vomit, and I had to spit it out. I'm dreading eating one again.

Mouldy Cheese: Oh God. I could almost smell the mould. :S

Black Pepper: The jelly bean contained black pepper. 'twas alright.

Baby Wipes (?!): Imagine smelling baby powder. Then imagine eating it.

Pencil Shavings: Alas! I didn't get this flavour in my pack. Maybe next time?

Test

Juuust testing out this typeface. After years of using Trebuchet, I think I'm now leaning towards using Courier for this blog. I don't know. You really don't have to read this, because I'm just writing to fill up some text space.

Gosh golly, isn't it a nice day? This here is a photo of Muir Woods, from the U S of A. Why is this photo here? Well, just because.

And, as I've never actually been to Muir Woods, there is no way that that photo is mine. I took it. From here.

p.s.: Did I really post this post at exactly 11:11AM? Well, no. No, I didn't. Did I schedule this post? Why yes. I sure did.

Drying Flowers

Drying flowers for the first time... let's see how this goes!

The first bouquet has roses, gerberas, and some purply pink flowers that I cannot identify. Edit: They are Statice flowers.

I love how this one looks as if they're levitating(!):

The other day, while wandering, I saw a bunch of these gorgeous antique pink roses at a dairy.

They came home with me, and are now hanging in my closet:

I've hung the pink roses for two days now, and the outer petals are starting to go brown. I had hoped the pink would stay. :-(

11.11.11

Pssst. It's 11:11pm on 11.11.11. Awesome!

+ RAW is still on (till tomorrow)! Are you visiting?

+ Take a look at this beautiful light calligraphy.

+ Things 90s kids realise. I stumbled across Full House episodes earlier this year, and I fell in love with them! Then my friend Morgan told me about Danny Tanner. :-\

+ Love this list: 20 Things I Wish I'd known at 20. (I turned 22 last month, and I think I still have time to pay attention to this list)

+ Life is too short (campaign).

+ I can't sew to save my life, but if I could, I would sew this.

Miniature food

Recently, while blog-hopping, I came across this amaaazingly talented artist, Shay Aaron.

Shay Aaron makes miniature food. Like. Doll-house sized. The food is so realistic, that I wanted to gobble up all the breads and the cakes. And when I found out from the photos that he starts making his tomatoes and bananas from the inside out (creating teeny tiny seeds first, then the flesh, then the skin, and so on), I cried a little.

Then I found out that there's this whole new world of miniature foodstuff. Some people use them for doll-houses, others use slices of fruits and veges as decoration on nails. All mind-blowing stuff. (To be honest, I don't have the patience to make miniatures, so I'll just look for now. :-) )

My friend Chloe, knowing my newfound obsession for miniature food, send me the link to this ingenious ring:

So anyway. This post is just to record this awesomeness in the blog. So I can come back and click on the link and goggle at all the talent again. And again. And again.

p.s.: Comment, please, okay? It literally makes my day. :D

So. Is this shiny gold balloon the tent of the future? I'd say it looks pretty cool.

AUT Grad Exhibition

We're almost there. The AUT final year exhibition is in a week! We're all busy with preparing the rooms, sending invitations, and creating our work, of course! I'd been to the AUT graduation exhibitions since before I started my degree, and I'd taken it all in with awe. And now, it's my turn to be part of it! It's almost unreal.

The student exhibition is open from the 10th of November till the 12th of November, from 10am—7pm. It's an exhibition of not just Graphic Design work, but Digital, Fashion, Product, Spatial, Textiles and Visual Arts also.

If you are in Auckland, do come. It will be amazing. :-)
